The course offers full-time guidance from Dr. Kumar who provides the transformative teachings of Yoga Darshana through ten days of guided meditation in ‘noble silence’. Drawing on thousands of years of profound teaching, Dr. Kumar opens hearts and minds to experience peace, compassion and connectedness.
Whether you are new to meditation or an experienced practitioner, this course will take you through the advanced stages of practice as outlined by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras.
The course structure is based on progressive practice and is dynamic and responsive to the student group.
In the Yoga tradition, the absorption of pure knowledge from a teacher who embodies and lives the values of yoga, is vital for an aspirant’s development. Dr. Kumar draws on his own vast experiential and theoretical knowledge of yoga to guide us through every step of the technique.

The meditation is practised in a group and guided by Dr. Kumar. Each meditation lasts around one hour and is followed by half an hour of relaxation and a herbal tea break before the next session begins. Usually six meditations are practiced per day, beginning early in the morning as the sun is rising. Chairs and meditation cushions are available. After lunch there is a period for rest before the afternoon meditations begin. Before breakfast there is a a gentle hatha yoga session to stretch and prepare the body for meditation. Prior to supper a hatha yoga pranayama relaxation technique is practised. After the evening meal Dr. Kumar gives a discourse clarifying the theory behind the meditation techniques, discusses the path of dharma, illustrated with stories, anecdotes and analogies, and how to can apply these teachings to daily life. For the duration of the course all students maintain ‘noble silence’. The aim of this is to allow focus and awareness to stay within, rather than in the outside world. The silence allows one to sink into a deeply peaceful state of mind and most people find that being in silence comes vary naturally once the meditation begins.
Course participants range from beginners taking their first retreat, to experienced meditators who have done many retreats with Dr. Kumar. The course size is approximately 60 people. We recommend that all retreat participants attend an Awareness Meditation Weekend Course prior to the retreat.

The course starts on Monday 13th August at 1pm and finishes on Friday 24th August 2018 at 1.30pm. Exact start and end times on these dates will be provided nearer the course commencement.
There is an optional complementary lunch on Monday 13th August served from 12.30pm until 1.30pm.
There is an option to have lunch on Friday 24th August before you leave. Pre-booking and payment of £8.95 to Traditional Yoga is essential before the course starts.
Thee course fees covers 11 nights from Monday 13th August to Friday 24th August 2018. If you would like to book extra nights before the course on Sunday 12th August please let us know by emailing email@example.com. There is an additional cost for an extra nights stay payable to Traditional Yoga before the course starts.

The course is guided full-time by Dr. Kumar for around 16 hours per day for the duration of the retreat. All Traditional Yoga courses are taught and run as an act of ‘seva’, selfless service and ‘dana’, generosity.

There are 8 half-course fee bursaries of £330 available for those that would like financial assistance to attend the retreat for the first time. Bursary recipients are still requested to make a donation. Accommodation is offered in a twin en-suite room.
